The Catalan giants have undoubtedly been the best team in Spain, and arguably the European continent for the past few years, with some going as far as calling them the greatest squad ever assembled. So obviously, a great kit would have to go with a great team, and that is what Nike have set out to do with the 2011-2012 Home Kit for FC Barcelona.
Something interesting about this kit is the appearance of a paying sponsor, a first for the club in their 111 years. The sponsor is the Qatar Foundation, and in a record breaking deal, the Middle Eastern corporation will pay an accumulative 125 million pounds to the Catalan club over a course of five years. However, Barca are maintaining their partnership with UNICEF, who will continue to appear on the clubs kits, however they will now be on the back of the jerseys.
Design
FC Barcelona’s woven club crest appears at the left chest of this shirt, and behind it–on the inside, close to the heart of those dedicated to the game–“Tots units fem força” (All United, We Have the Strength) is printed.
Renowned stripes lend a bold style, and finished hems prevent fraying and deliver a polished look. A screenprint sponsor logo spans the center chest for a nod to the backers of the team, while a club graphic and league badge adorn the center back and right sleeve.
Fabric
Lightweight and breathable, the FC Barcelona Official Home Shirt was designed with the environment in mind. Its sweat-wicking Dri-FIT fabric was made from the equivalent of eight recycled plastic bottles.
Dri-FIT helps keep you dry and comfortable by wicking sweat away from the skin to the fabric’s surface, where it quickly evaporates. Dri-FIT mesh panels down the sides enhance ventilation in high-heat areas.
